Upcycling DIY: Ingenious wood look for your chest of drawers!

Project from Cintia -

Fancy a creative wood look you haven’t seen yet? To give your old chest of drawers a really exciting new signature look?

Three things make the upcycling project so special: First, the combination of two different oak-look adhesive foils (d-c-fix® Sonoma and Ribbeck Oak). Secondly, the special effect from deliberately placed “joints” when adhesive bonding, which include the original decor of your chest of drawers as a contrast. And thirdly, the progression of the strips in a fishbone pattern. This, together, will create an incomparably vibrant wood look that is a real eye-catcher and makes your old chest of drawers look great!

Ready for your unique furniture makeover?

Nothing has more of a wow factor: Three special effects from one upcycle!

You will need…

  • d-c-fix® Sonoma Oak
  • d-c-fix® Ribbeck Oak
  • Pencil

  • Ruler
  • Boxcutter
  • Smoothing blade

Let’s go

Step 1:

Think about how wide you want the wooden strips to be on the front of your chest of drawers and determine the number of strips required. Then draw the shapes accordingly on the backing paper of the adhesive foils and cut the strips to size.

Step 2:

Remove a little bit of the backing paper from the first strip, apply the piece of foil in such a way that the fishbone pattern will be diagonal and smooth the foil well.

Step 3:

When fixing the next adhesive strip in the other wood look, leave a little distance from the piece of foil that has already been stuck on and then carefully smooth it on in parallel.

Step 4:

In this way, you can work your way forward across both front surfaces of your chest of drawers, carefully cutting off any protruding foil on the edges with the cutting knife.

We did it!
