Two-color square side table.

DIY upcycling: A two-color side table with that wow effect!

Project from Cintia -

Have you ever heard of Op Art? Or have you ever been amazed by optical art images that play with visual perception? Our upcyling DIY project is inspired by Op Art and shows what you can achieve with two conventional square side tables – for example Lack tables from Ikea – with d-c-fix® adhesive foils in trendy sage and magnolia. Namely: a cuboid side table with a fascinating color finish and a astonishing visual effect!  One thing is certain: you’ will immediately fall in love with your new DIY designer furniture. We promise!

You will need…

  • d-c-fix® Sage
  • d-c-fix® Magnolia
  • 2x IKEA Lack tables
  • Pencil
  • Scissors

  • Utility knife
  • Smoothing blade
  • Measuring tape
  • Glue
  • Paintbrush

Let’s go

Step 1

Measure the surfaces of the tabletops and the circumference of the table legs. Transfer the dimensions onto the backing paper of the relevant adhesive foil. We are using the sage and magnolia colors for one tabletop and two legs.

Step 2

Now cut the individual pieces of the adhesive foils to size.

Step 3

Peel off the backing paper from the adhesive foil and use the smoothing blade to smooth the foil onto the flat surface.

Step 4

Screw the four legs to the underside of the tabletop.

Step 5

Apply glue to the bottom of the table legs and then place the second tabletop on top – let the glue dry well. If you like, you can fit rollers under the DIY side table to finish.

You’re done!

Two adhesive foils, two disassembled IKEA LACK tables, pencil, scissors, smoothing blade, cutter, ruler, glue and a paintbrush are lying on the floor.
